The iPhone app that lists wines recommended by the more prestigious Italian guides

It is called “Top of the Italian Wine Guides 2011” and, in just a few days, it has climbed to top position of the most downloaded iPhone apps in Italy in the Fashion and Trends category and the absolute top 10 of free apps. The app lists wines that have been given at least one rating for excellence by the six leading Italian wine guides.

The free app is the digital version of the "Top of the Wine Guides 2011", a classification of all ratings given to Italian wines by the leading wine publications, published for more than 10 years by Civiltà del Bere, the leading Italian wine magazine, founded in 1974.

Featured in the voting summary are the lists, cinque grappoli by AIS (Italian Association of Sommeliers), the "vini dell'eccellenza" of Espresso magazine, the "tre bicchieri" of the Gambero Rosso, the "super tre stelle" of the Guida Veronelli, the "migliori" of Luca Maroni, the "grandi vini" and the "vini slow" from Slow Wine.

The app allows you to browse wines by classification: those recommended by 6 Guides out of 6, those with 5/6, down to the wines rated by a single guide. Each listing links to various searches: for example you can find all wines rated according to type (white, red, rosé, sparkling, desert, lightly sparkling), according to grape (Chardonnay, Cabernet, Nebbiolo, Sangiovese, Corvina), or by appellation (Barolo, Brunello di Montalcino, Soave, Conero, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo).

For the first time in a wine app it is also possible to select a winemaker and all of their wines; an interesting feature that renders it an almost educational experience.

“We are delighted. Finally we have a digital version of our 'Guide of Guides'”

Alessandro Torcoli, Executive director of Civiltà del Bere
